Basil Pietersen was born in Sophiatown and after schooling completed two degrees before finally completing an International Transportation diploma.
His career began with Shipping Systems where he went on to take over as MD. The company was incorporated into the Micor Group of Companies and there he explored service offerings. Basil held various senior positions in several group companies including MD at a joint venture called AMI South Africa.
After 30 years at Micor he moved to Barloworld Group where he established a projects division. He soon realised it was time to establish his own business and founded Multimodal Logistics Solutions (Pty) Ltd (Multilog).
Basil has managed projects in 42 African countries originating from all over the globe. Multilog specialises in the movement of abnormal cargo to challenging destinations, including the chartering of vessels and aircrafts.
Basil, chairman of SAAFF, was elected as a member of the FIATA Presidency during the 2015 World Congress in Taiwan. This was the first time that the Chairman of the South African Association of Freight Forwarders had been elected to this prestigious position. At the recent FIATA General Meeting in Malaysia Basil was re-elected to the FIATA presidency, well positioned for working towards the FIATA World Congress in Cape Town in October 2019.
